Students applauding for veterans as they walk byHenry Ford II high school students took the time to applaud area local veterans – literally.

The student body filled the halls on Friday to clap for local military veterans as they walked through the school as part of an annual celebration.

“Every day citizens can wake up knowing that their freedoms and liberties are protected because of the very men and women in this room,” said Ford II student Anureet Rai. “Every day we have the ability to think freely, love freely and prosper freely because individuals like you who had the strength and courage to preserve those rights for everyone else. We are thankful for your selflessness and it is something we can all learn from.”

The program featured student speakers and patriotic performances by the marching band and choir. The band’s drum line than led the veterans through the hall at Henry Ford II, where students lined the edges to applaud service members.  Veterans also participated in a morning breakfast with a video tribute from multi-media students.

The program was hosted by the school’s Interact Club, the Henry Ford II band and choir, and sponsored by the Band Boosters.

“Here at Ford, we strive to teach our students to give back to our community,” said teacher Kate Walker, who sponsors the Interact Club with teacher Susan Welch. “Thank you for all you have sacrificed for our country and for the freedoms that we enjoy.”
