Ninth grader named Student of the Year for organizing state's top Leukemia charity event

A Henry Ford II High School student has been named “Student of the Year” for leading a team that raised nearly $30,000 for Leukemia research and treatment.
Ninth-grader Madyson Howard earned the “Student of the Year” title from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for organizing the State of Michigan’s top fundraiser project.
Howard and her team – “The Dreamers” – raised $27,804 over a seven-week period. Ninth-grader Emily Hudson, a member of the group, was awarded the Team Member of the Year by the society.
“It’s important to me to help people who may be suffering,” Howard said. “I’m grateful I had this opportunity to help.”
Howard said the money was raised through events and fundraisers. Some of the fundraisers included an EMAGINE movie theatre night and bake sales.
